Jacques Villegle: Les murs ont la parole
At Patrick Derom Gallery, we are pleased to present an exhibition dedicated to Jacques Villegle, a key figure of postwar art.
Bringing together around forty works, the exhibition traces his career from his first torn posters—collected in the streets of Paris in 1949—to his more recent typographic drawings. By appropriating fragments of urban advertising, Villegle introduced chance and collective intervention into the creative process, challenging the notion of individual authorship.
The presentation is complemented by the screening of Un mythe dans la ville (1974–1998) and a documentary by Fabrice Maze, produced for his retrospective at the Centre Pompidou.
This exhibition highlights the richness and singularity of an œuvre where the city, chance, and perception become essential creative forces.
